Educating through Experimentation:
Experimental Physics at Istanbul Saint-Joseph High School
Istanbul Private Saint-Joseph High School presents the exhibition "Educating through Experimentation: Experimental Physics at Istanbul Saint-Joseph High School" from April 5th to May 28th, 2023. Curated by Prof. Dr. Feza Günergun, the exhibition consists of a selection of 80 pieces from the school's physics equipment collection. The tools are accompanied by historical and functional information, as well as videos of experiments conducted using the equipment.
Science, an integral part of our daily lives, owes much of its progress to experimentation and experimental scientists, although its existence often goes unnoticed. Experimentation served not only as a means of producing science in 18th-century Europe but also as a form of entertainment. Its use for educational purposes became widespread in the second half of the 19th century.
Now, students learn the laws of science through experiments performed by their teachers using instruments and experience natural phenomena firsthand in the classroom. Conducting experiments in classes has become a significant indicator of effective education.
